Zero Is A Size!

Normally I shy away from controversial topics, but I can not let this one go.

With all the media attention surrounding Sophia Bushes war against Urban Outfitters, there seems to be one group who is completely left out- the people who are naturally a size 0! Do people not understand that a shirt that says "Zero Is Not A Size" is equally as hurtful as a shirt that says "Eat Less"? Not everybody who is a size zero got that way through starving themselves. Some are just born that way. Girls who are naturally extremely skinny have body image issues too! Lack of feminine curves can make a girl feel unwomanly. It makes thin girls wonder if their clothes look okay, because it is difficult for them to fill them out. What is the problem with being thin? Why is it that only curvy girls get the title of "real women?" It is not as simple as going to eat a cheeseburger. Many underweight girls would gain weight if their bodies allowed it.

Thank you for reading my rant. I'm sorry if I offended anybody, but I feel like this is really important to keep in mind.

Peace and Love

Would you like come cookie with your m&ms?

I finally have a day off! I have decided to spend my day baking in order to keep myself from shopping and spending the money I need to save for college. I tried the m&m cookie recipe by Little Miss Momma. (http://www.littlemissmomma.com/2011/10/mm-sugar-cookie-recipe.html)

The recipe was super easy! The only problem I encountered on the way was purely my own dumb mistake. For some reason I thought it would be okay to substitute parchment paper for wax paper. About seven minutes into baking my first batch the oven began smoking and the whole kitchen filled with the smell of burnt plastic. I pulled the cookies out of the oven and ran to the store to get parchment paper. I transferred the half baked cookies onto a sheet with parchment paper and finished baking them. That batch turned out different looking than all of the other batches. I am a little scared to try them. I hope they aren't toxic :/

On the left are the cookies baked on wax paper. The right were baked on parchment paper.
The ones on the left are flatter and shinier.

The final product!

Thanks for the recipe Little Miss Momma!!! I fully recommend it to anyone looking for an m&m cookie recipe.

Chinos, Chinos, Chinos!!!

I am a chino addict. I began this summer never having known the love of a chino short. Now I do not know how I ever lived without them! I am a particular fan of the J Crew 3" Chinos. I am still 19 years old, and the 3" are the perfect length for me! They cover my butt up, while still managing to be fun, short, and flirty. I typically wear my chinos with either white or black tees, tanks, or spaghetti strap tops. I have cut myself off from buying chinos for this summer, but I am very pleased with the collection I have grown. The colors I have are felt green, dusty rose, shocking pink, and lime green. All but the felt green pair were bought off of ebay because my J Crew sold out of my size in most colors before I made it to the store. I got great deals on all of them!

Is Lululemon worth it?

I finally gave in and bought some Lululemon Wunder under leggings! Swipping my credit card to pay for leggings so expensive could have killed me.
Shopping in the Lululemon store was actually such a pleasure though! The women who worked there were extremely helpful and didn't treat me like any less of a human being than the wealthy middle aged housewives, just because I am a teenager. For reference, I typically wear a size 0 or 2 in most stores, and a 00 in JCrew. I bought a size 4 Wunder Under!! I don't know if they run small, but I just felt more comfortable in the bigger size. I also feel like they will be less see-through than if they needed to stretch more. I won't have the opportunity to wear them for a while, because it is in the 90's where I live right now, but I can't wait until I can pull them out when the winter comes around.

But forreal, is Lululemon worth the steep prices? Im expecting these leggings to be the nectar of the gods for the amount of cash I shelled out for them.

Reflections On That Retail Life

Today I am closing in on my second week in retail. I can honestly say there are a lot of things I love about it. I am still very new though, and still trying to get the hang of it. I have only bought one thing there so far, despite my 50% discount. I will probably head in some time next week when I'm not working to look around because I feel like I'm not really taking advantage of my really good discount. Its really awkward for me to go into the store to shop. I feel bad asking someome I work with, but don't know that well yet, to open fitting rooms for me. Oh well. I'm sure it will only get better with time.

I have officially joined the retail work force!

I officially work in retail!

And I also practically signed myself up for the craziest summer of my life. My Lilly Pulitzer monthly planner is almost bursting at the seams with times I am supposed to be places. I currently have three jobs. I have to fund my shopping habit somehow ;)

My newest job is my first in retail! It is at a small boutique that is located in a trendy district close to my house. Although my store is not a stand alone (they do have a few other stores in different cities) I think that is better than working in a mall store. Mall stores  seem so much more high-stress than I think this will be. I go to it often and it never seems too busy. I am also excited for the discount!

I am not sure how much of the clothes I will buy, however, because most of it is Forever21 quality. As much as I love occasional Forever21 pieces, I try not to shop there too often because the clothes tend to look cheep and not be worth it in the end when they fall apart after the first wash.

I'll let you know how my first retail experience goes after my first shift next week!

Bargain Shoppers OOTD

So I will admit it, I can not turn down a great deal! I live for websites like Ebay and Etsy (and recently Poshmark!) I could be the poster child for Marshalls and TJ Maxx. I can not remember the last time I payed full price for anything. Here is a simple, preppy, outfit of the day that demonstrates my obsession with discounts...
Every single piece of this outfit was discounted. I even bought my Sperry Topsiders on Black Friday a few years back.

The shorts I am wearing are the J Crew Chino Shorts with a 3" inseam. This is the color Felt Green. They were on sale at the store for $29. On top of that, J Crew was having 30% off all sale clothing. I also got the 15% student discount. Ultimately, the shorts cost me around $17. :)

I scored this Kate Spade Ellen bag on Poshmark for a great deal! Check out my last post for details about Poshmark (AKA my new love)
The belt is from my mothers closet and doesn't have any tags on it.
My tie-button up is from Marshalls. No matter what craziness is happening in my life, Marshalls is always a constant ;)

I hope you all have a great week!
